LAB CATASTROPHES
There
may be complications during angioplasty procedures,
leading to cardio-pulmonary arrest (or imminent death)
while the patient is in recovery. Here, the patient
is placed immediately (within 10 minutes) on a percutaneous
bypass support machine. This support system takes
over the function of the heart and lungs and allows
the physician to correct the underlying complications
of the patient in a safe manner.
